Work has begun on the UK’s first X-ray pair distribution function (PDF) beamline: XPDF at Diamond.
From the DLS website:
The beamline will operate as a side-station to the Extreme Condition Beamline I15, making use of high-energy radiation (40–80 keV) produced as part of the broad fan of photons generated by the I15 wiggler insertion device. A beam, optimised with respect to energy resolution and flux for three dedicated energies and various focal sizes, will be delivered to a separate experimental hutch. The sample environment for acquiring x-ray PDF data initially has to be compact but very versatile to be able to accommodate high-throughput including variable temperature experiments at ambient pressure. The flexibility of the sample station should facilitate the development and installation of more complex sample environments at a later stage.
